About Me

I am a first-year Environmental Biology PhD student, jointly hosted in Susanne Shultz and Holly Sheils' lab at the University of Manchester. My academic interests are in environmental toxicology- especially with applications to global health- and finding solutions for pressing one health and environmental contaminant issues. I currently conduct environmental toxicology postgraduate research, focusing on the aquatic bioaccumulation of pollutants in South Africa.

Background

I obtained my Bachelor of Science at the University of California, Davis, majoring in Environmental Toxicology with a minor in Global Disease Biology. During my time at UC Davis, I completed research at their Bodega Bay Marine Laboratory, comparing the response of two different sea urchin species to inorganic mercury at various concentrations. These dose-response curves were further investigated using ROS Assays, culminating in a presentation at Bodega Bay Marine Laboratory’s Summer 2023 Conference and student publication in UC Davis’ Cadet Hand Library. I also served as Secretary/Historian on my university's Student Health Advisory Board (SHAB), raising awareness of mental health resources for queer and disabled students.

•Shortly after graduating, I interned at the California Department of Public Health's Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Branch (CLPPB). There, I modified the interview protocol for household lead investigations and helped create educational materials available on the State of California's website. Now, I am at the University of Manchester to conduct environmental toxicology postgraduate research, focusing on the aquatic bioaccumulation of pollutants in South Africa.

I have been a student member of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) since 2024.
